Basic Tips and Tricks for the Beginner Golfer
As a beginner, you’ve done all the drills and practised countless hours on the driving range. You’ve created the perfect scenario to work on all critical aspects of your swing. The grip is excellent, your alignment and posture are correct, and you have the right tempo in your swing. Then you hit the golf course. You need to know some of the essential golf tips and tricks.
Where you had a flat surface to practice on at the range, this is not always the case out on the course. You have to contend with undulating fairways, divots, slopes, and obstacles. Great! Can this game get any harder?
Well, it can, but let’s no dwell on that. With all of the challenges that golf can throw at you, there’s the opportunity to be creative and resourceful. Recovering from a problematic position gives a great feeling when you pull it off.
Several months ago, I hit a beautiful straight drive, which I rarely do. In this case, though, it was a little too straight and a little too far. I ended up at the top of a dogleg right fairway with my ball resting about six inched from a tree. As a right-hand golfer, there was no way for me to take a normal swing. One of the guys in my group told me a trick to get me out of this predicament.
I took a seven iron and stood with my back to the hole with the club in my right hand. I then took a swing backwards with the ball coming away nicely 50 yards in the middle of the fairway. It felt good. As a beginner golfer, you need to start building a knowledge bank of golf tips and tricks like these.
